(Ego) :: Fabricated Identity

Ego — The Fabricated Identity

The psychological and spiritual idea that humans often construct an artificial persona—the “False Self” or “Ego”—to navigate a world where they feel insecure, unloved, or threatened.

This false identity is curated, defended, and projected outward to maintain a specific image of superiority, righteousness, or success.

Here is an elaboration on the structure, rootedness, and mechanisms of this false identity.

1. Rooted in Fabricated Identity (The Ego)

The “False Self” is not who you are, but rather “who you think you are”. It is a mental and social construct, a “thought-form” assembled over time from beliefs, memories, and social conditioning.

A Survival Mechanism: Originally, this identity is developed in childhood as a defense mechanism to cope with trauma or to secure love by conforming to expectations. It is a “wineskin” that helps us get started on our life journey.

The Problem with the Ego: While functional, the ego becomes problematic when we become too identified with it and spend our lives protecting it. It is, by definition, artificial and insecure, constantly requiring external validation to remain intact.

Shaky Foundation: The ego is a “scared tyrant” that attacks anything contradicting it. It clings to a false sense of a fixed “I” in a world that is always changing.

2. The False Self (The Persona)

The false self is a “mask” or “persona” created for the world to see, often hiding the authentic self.

Curated for Superiority: The False Self is curated to be seen as superior, righteous, or successful to gain approval and avoid abandonment.
The “Good One”: Self-righteousness is a major component of this, where the person builds an identity around being “right” and superior to others’ shortcomings.

Disconnected from Reality:

This identity is a “3D movie projector” that constantly plays scenes from the past to control the present. It often leads to a life of illusion.

3. Structure: Projection as a Defense

Projection is the primary mechanism the False Self uses to maintain its curated image. It is the process of disowning unwanted parts of oneself and attributing them to others.

Externalizing Intolerable Feelings:

When the ego feels shame, inadequacy, or envy, it projects these feelings outward, often accusing others of being “showy,” “liars,” or “incompetent”.

The “Mirror” Defense:

By projecting flaws onto others, the individual can attack them safely from afar, reinforcing their own false persona of being “better” or righteous.

Creating a False Reality:

Projection allows the person to “gaslight” themselves, living in a fantasy where they are superior, while avoiding confronting their own “despised real self”.

Projection is the mechanism by which the false self maintains its integrity. The false self cannot handle internal feelings of inadequacy, shame, or toxicity, so it unconsciously projects them onto others.

Projection of Unwanted Traits: If the false self feels insecure, it will project that insecurity outward, perceiving others as insecure or envious.

Superiority/Righteousness Mask: To hide a deep sense of inadequacy, the persona might act self-righteous, blaming others and acting as the “victim” to avoid accountability.

Smear Campaigns: A righteous persona may create a “smear campaign,” pointing fingers to maintain an image of perfection while tearing down others to cover up their own flaws.

4. Characteristics of the Curated Persona

“I am what I do/have/say”: The false self believes its existence depends on status, appearance, and external validation.

Perfectionism and Fear: It is terrified of being seen as ordinary or vulnerable, spending a lifetime building a high-gloss mask.

Emotional Numbness: By living through a mask, the individual becomes disconnected from their own authentic emotions.

In essence, this structure is a “life of sin”—in the psychological, not moral, sense—meaning a life devoted to the cult of a shadow that has no true reality, constantly battling to make a “nothingness” feel like “something”.

Summary of the Cycle

Insecurity:

The individual feels inadequate (real self is hidden).
The true self feels unsafe or unworthy.

Fabrication:

The ego constructs a superior/righteous persona (False Self).
The ego constructs a “False Self” (e.g., “I am perfect,” “I am righteous,” “I am successful”).

Threat:

The ego feels threatened by a flaw or mistake.
Reality exposes a flaw or weakness.

Projection:

The ego blames another person for that flaw.
The false self denies the flaw and projects it onto someone else in order to feel “superior” or “right”

Validation: The (ego) person feels superior (temporary relief of anxiety).

This defensive, non-stop effort to maintain the illusion leads to emotional exhaustion and the creation of “false lives”. Healing involves acknowledging this defensive mechanism and peeling back these layers to reconnect with the authentic self, or “True Self”.

Healing, according to this view, involves recognizing that the ego/false self is an illusion—a “learned program”—and turning toward the “true self” or “awareness” underneath.

Imagine living on the only known planet in the infinite universe, where the mortified rich get richer by indoctrinating the people to follow an ancient dogma, repeating an ancient doctrine of sacrifice, projected onto innocent children, again and again, the rich get richer, and the children inherit a brutal indoctrination instead of Living Sacred Life.  https://empathymatters.org/armageddon/
